the incredible Mike Nicholson

As long as we're talking about regular guys with amazing academic accomplishments, we can't forget about Mike Nicholson, a retired parking meter attendant at Western Michigan University, who has thirty (30!) college degrees, including at least twenty-two master's degrees and one doctorate.

Why? Why not? As he said, "I enjoy learning as a means of independence." "I just wanted to learn more about the things that were coming my way."

Some articles about Nicholson are here (when he only had twenty-seven degrees), here (at twenty-nine), and here (thirty).

And here is a list of the first twenty-nine.

Is Mike Nicholson a polymath? You bet! Anyone with 30 college degrees is a double or triple polymath. Under the Bolger exception, anyone with eleven degrees is a polymath.

Heck, I would say that anyone with five or possibly even four college degrees fits the bill. When we finally get around to defining the word, we'll fit in an exception someone for these amazing perpetual students.
